Bummis Beautiful Basic Cloth Diaper Kit Review

The Bummis Beautiful Basic Cloth Diaper Kit comes with 3 Organic Cotton Prefold inserts and 1 Bummis Super Whisper Wrap.

When I first got the Bummis prefolds, the first thing I noticed was how big and thick they are compared with a Gerber prefold (which I use for spit up rags). 

This isn't the clearest picture, but the Bummis (below) is MUCH thicker than the Gerber prefold. I'd have to use two Gerber prefolds to get the absorbency of one Bummi prefold. 

 Here is the inside of the Super Whisper Wrap. It's pretty basic, which I like. Velcro (on this model), flap to keep leaks in, good thick waterproof fabric and gussets that are neither too tight nor too loose.

This is a picture of my daughter modeling another Bummis wrap (these two covers fit the same). I need to work on my prefold skills though. The fitteds I use don't poke out as much. 

And... a view from the side. These covers hold everything in well. I like that they allow for extra "padding" in the back. 

So far, these are my favorite covers, velcro and all! (I'm a snap girl at heart, so it's got to be good velcro for me to like it!)

bumGenius: Freetime, 4.0, or Elemental?

I've decided to compare different bumGenius diapers after receiving so many questions about the difference between them. The three main types of bumGenius diaper out there are the Freetime AIO, the 4.0 One Size Pocket, and the Elemental. First I'll review the 4.0. This is a pocket diaper. If you look closely, you can see that the insert can snap smaller. There is elastic in the back and a waterproof panel in the front.

The Freetime has two flaps that fold out for quick and easy drying.

They fold in for quick and easy "stuffing."

The Elemental has two strips of fabric that are sewn in on both ends.

Here are the three: Elemental, 4.0, and Freetime snapped to the smallest settings. It's hard to say which of the three is the smallest. The Elemental has the smallest leg holes and lowest rise while the 4.0 has the smallest waist.

Here are the three snapped to the largest settings. The 4.0 has the highest rise.

Overall, my favorite is the Freetime. It dries the fastest and has the best overall fit for my daughter. The Elemental takes too long to dry and is too "crunchy," and the 4.0 has to be stuffed (gag) and is more bulky. The 4.0 insert also takes longer to dry than the Freetime.

Knickernappies Stackable Pad Review

(Note: Would you be able to take a moment to share with me in the comments section what mama cloth you use, or would like to try? If you don't use mama cloth, do you have any questions about it?)

I've made the switch to mama cloth. Right now, it's only 50% of the time since I haven't built up my stash yet, but I am hooked! When I have to go back to disposables for a day to let my mama cloth dry, I HATE it! I hate that I'm throwing away almost a quarter every time I change a pad, and I can't wait until I can get back into comfort! 

I was recently able to review Knickernappies stackable pads. These are different than any other pads I have. The black part goes up against your panties and can be reused while you replace the inserts as needed. A pad set comes with two snappable inserts. 

For light flow, you only have to use the shorter insert (although the snaps bother me quite a bit in this position.)

For heavy flow, you snap in the longer insert OVER the shorter one (although the snaps DO still irritate me... mostly b/c they're cold when I first put it on).  

The inserts are made of microfiber on one side and velour on the other, making them soft and terry-clothesque (do you like my new word?).

 The part that goes against your panties is made of soft waterproof fleece that won't slide around. My camera's not the greatest, but if you look closely you can see how the waffle pattern on the fabric can "grip."

Overall, I am pleased with these pads. They're soft, absorbent, and dry quickly because of they layers. I JUST don't care for all the snaps is all! I personally prefer a more "all-in-one" type of pad.

Dry Bees Review and Giveaway (from Greenie Beanie Bottoms)

Greenie Beanie Bottoms graciously sent me a DryBees diaper to try! Greenie Beanie Bottoms also provides amber teething necklaces, natural skincare products, and cloth products for moms! 

I love the DryBees all-in-one diapers! It has taken me forever to get this post up because every time I try to take pictures of the diaper, I realize it is dirty or wet. I keep using it! 

Here is a picture of the diaper. This one is a medium, yet it is quite large for a medium compared with other diapers**. 

This diaper is so easy to use! This is definitely a great diaper for someone new to cloth diapering. The DryBees also dries more quickly than my other all-in-ones.  

Now here's one of the best parts: There is a pocket so you can stuff it if you need more absorbency! (something I haven't yet needed).

Below are pictures of the fit of a Medium on a 17 lb baby. If you can't tell from the pictures, my baby is now a toddler and refused to cooperate for the photo shoot. 

The waist is snug but comfortable.

In summary, these diapers are absorbent and dry quickly. They are also sized a bit large (great if you have an older/larger baby, but perhaps not-so-great for a newborn). I just wish the tabs crossed over for a more snug fit.

GladRags Review and Giveaway

I was so excited to be able to try GladRags! I had never used cloth pads before, but after being converted to cloth diapers it seemed like the natural next step. This is what I received in the mail:

The pads are sooo soft. Here's one opened up:

This is the back of the pad (that goes against your underwear), which has a pocket for inserts.  

Each regular pad comes with two inserts. You can use one insert for a light day or both for a heavier day. I like to use the pad without inserts as a panty liner. 

This is the backside, snapped up. I found that it seemed a wee bit too tight/narrow for my underwear, but maybe it's supposed to be tight so it doesn't slide around. 

There are different ways to deal with cloth pads. You can store your dirty pads in a wet bag or in a container of water under your sink. You'll want to rinse them out or soak them as soon as you can if you don't want them to stain, though. You can easily rinse them out and then throw them in a lingerie bag to wash with your other laundry, or hand wash them right away. I was sad that I can't wash them with my diapers, because they need to be washed in cold or warm water. 

Here is my comparison of GladRags pads to disposable pads:

GladRags are BETTER because:

-No crackly packages

-No trash to throw away

-No sticky parts sticking to things

-No more rashes caused by plastic

-They're softer/comfier

-They're prettier

-GladRags donates pads to women in need in Africa

-I don't have to go out and buy more every month

-My HUSBAND doesn't have to go out and buy any if there's an emergency

Disposable pads are BETTER because:

-I don't have to wash them
-They can be more trim and thin

OsoCozy AIO vs. Thirsties Duo AIO

Here is a Thirsties Duo AIO size 2 (18-40 lbs, left) next to an OsoCozy AIO sizse 2 (18-35 lbs, right). Both are the larger size, but you can see that the OsoCozy is actually larger. It is more trim between the legs, but larger overall. 

The OsoCozy has Aplix fasteners, while the Thirsties has snaps.  The rise on the Thirsties can also be adjusted. 

  

The Thirsties can be stuffed if more absorbency is needed. 

Look how thick the pad is! (It is also open at both ends, which makes stuffing easier).

The OsoCozy is thinner overall, giving it a more trim fit (and just as much absorbency).

The inside of the Thirsties is a soft polyester microfiber, but OsoCozy is cotton gauze weave fabric (not as soft, but natural). 

OsoCozy has a waterproof front that helps to prevent leaks that the Thirsties does not have. 

 Here is a better size comparison. The OsoCozy fits my 35 lb toddler, but the Thirsties doesn't even come close. It fits my 16 lb baby perfectly though. To see the fit of the OsoCozy on a 35 lb toddler and to see more photos, click HERE.

Introducing Ecopipo!

I am so excited to share about a Mexican cloth diaper company with you today! My family lived in Mexico for about seven years, so Mexico has a part of my heart.

The company is called Ecopipo. You may have to click "translate" in order to read their website in English (but if you do, please remember that Google isn't the best at translating, and some of the phrases will sound a bit weird!).

These are the types of Ecopipo diapers, according to their website: Snaps (solids), Minky (patterns with velcro), Velcro (solids), New Born (solids), and even diapers for older children and adults.  

Ecopipo also sells training pants, swim diapers, wet bags, wipes, flushable liners, nursing pads and Mama cloth.

Their diapers sell for 300 Mexican pesos, which is about $23.56.

I was so excited to receive samples of these diapers! I received one Minky (velcro), one Velcro (solid) and one print (velcro). Velcro is not a favorite of mine, but this velcro is STRONG, stronger than the hook and loop on any of my other diapers. I love the deep flap in the back!

These diapers also feature double gussets, and great elastic in the back. They're so soft on the inside! My favorite is the Minky, which is oh-so-soft on the outside!

The training pants are awesome as well. :) These are constructed like an all-in-one.

The training pants have two snaps on each side for easy removal. 

The Mama cloth is made like an all-in-one diaper as well (which I really like!) with the same soft fabric on the inside as on the inside of their diapers...

... and with a layer of PUL on the back side, like the diapers! I know from personal experience that these are comfortable and thin enough that you forget you're wearing them.
